Introduction
The optimization is done using the plugin called EWWW Image Optimizer (EIO). Check out the plugin documentation and home page.
The GTmetrix tool is used to measure scores before and after the optimization.
Steps
- Get the initial GTM scores.
- Backup the system. In case the optimization has gone wrong, restore the system using this backup.
- Settings in EIO:
- Basic – tick Remove Metadata. Others are default values.
- Easy Mode – use default values, i.e. untick all options.
- Advanced – Add these lines to “Folders to Ignore”:
- wp-content/themes/
- wp-content/plugins/
- Resize – tick Resize Detection. Others are default (unticked).
- Go to Media -> Bulk Optimize. Carry out the bulk optimization.
- Check the log output to make sure the include and exclude settings are effective.
- Get the new GTM score.
