Three plugins were tested. They were Autoptimize, WP Fastest Cache and WP Super Cache. GTMetrix was used to do the benchmarking. Logged in GTMetrix so that the HK server could be selected. Only the Home page was used in the tests.

In short, Test 6 on Autoptimize with WP Super Cache combination produced the best results.

0. Before tests

Before any caching plugins were installed, the GTM score was:

1. Autoptimize
(1+ Million Active Installations)

With the standard settings, YSlow was improved by 11%, Fully Loaded Time increased by 0.1s, Page Size reduced by 2%, and Requests was reduced by 53%. It had done a good job in YSlow score and reducing number of requests but had no improvement in Fully Loaded Time!

2. WP Fastest Cache
(1+ Million Active Installations)

Deactivated all other caching plugins before doing the test on WP Fastest Cache. It appears to have a better performance than Autoptimize.

YSlow was increased 5%, Fully Loaded Time shortened by 17%, Page size reduced by 9%, Requests reduced by 32%. Some improvement in all areas.

3. WP Super Cache
(2+ Million Active Installations)

Deactivated all other caching plugins before doing the test on WP Super Cache. This plugin gave the fastest Fully Loaded Time, but the YSlow, Total Page Size and Num. of Request had no improvement at all.

4. LiteSpeed Cache
(1+ Million Active Installations)

This plugin was not tested at the end due to the privacy statements which contains this message:

The pages are stored locally on the system where LiteSpeed server software is installed and are not transferred to or accessed by LiteSpeed employees in any way, except as necessary in providing routine technical support if you request it.

The cached pages seems are stored in the vendor’s server.

5. Autoptimize with WP Fastest Cache

Using these two plugins together and with the settings described in GoodLayers, the score is looking good.

6. Autoptimize with WP Super Cache

Using these two plugins together, the result is rather good.

YSlow increased by 11%, Fully Loaded Time reduced by 50%, Total Page Size reduced by 2%, Requests reduced by 53%.
